Kamala Harris Confronts Hecklers by Taking Shot at Trump Crowd Size

Vice President Kamala Harris shot down a group of hecklers at her rally in Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon, telling them that they must have “meant to go to the smaller one down the street.”

Speaking on stage at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse recreation center, Harris was attacking former President Donald Trump‘s abortion policies when a group of hecklers interrupted her.

According to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Laura Schulte, the people were escorted from Harris’ rally about 20 minutes into the vice president’s speech and were shouting “Jesus is Lord” at other attendees on their way out of the room.

“Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally,” Harris said in response to the interruptions.

“No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street,” she quipped.

Trump often brags about the crowd size his rallies attract, although Newsweek has found that several of the former president’s claims have been false or exaggerated.

He has also repeatedly claimed that his rally sizes are significantly bigger than Harris’ events. As Newsweek reported, however, Harris has attracted a bigger crowd than Trump on several occasions, including when the two candidates hosted events in Pennsylvania on Monday. Harris’ event at the Erie Insurance Arena had a maximum capacity of 5,400, and the event’s coordinators said they expected the venue to be full.

In comparison, Trump’s town hall event in Philadelphia at the same time was hosted at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center and Fairgrounds, which has a capacity of roughly 3,000. Democrats have poked fun at Trump’s fixation on his crowd sizes on several occasions.

Newsweek reached out to Trump’s campaign via email on Thursday for comment.

Harris’ stop in La Crosse was part of her campaign blitz in the swing state on Thursday. She also spoke at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee earlier in the day, where the vice president was met with dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters who were demonstrating against the vice president support of Israel.

Harris ended Thursday night at the Resch Expo in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that a small group of pro-Trump protesters gathered outside of the event center ahead of Harris’ rally while waving flags and holding a banner with a photo of the former president at the July 13 assassination attempt.

Trump spent Thursday as the headliner for the annual Al Smith charity dinner in New York. Harris declined to attend the event in person but sent in a pre-recorded video message.
