Juan Andrés Lagos (PC) supports Jadue: “An arbitrariness is being committed here that is very typical of the time of the dictatorship”

He advisor to the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, Juan Andrés Lagos (PC), supported the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue after his frustrated trip to Venezuela.

This is a new intervention by the journalist, one that has recently generated discomfort within La Moneda. Lagos has a space streaming on YouTube called “The Crónica Digital program: analyzing the political week with the journalist Juan Andrés Lagos and the poet Omar Cid.” One of the last controversies occurred after vindicate the “Octoberism”, pointing out that it is being reactivated and defining it as “the people in the streets.”

The strongest dispute occurred weeks before, when Lagos – who is also a panelist on the Sin Filtros program – defended the regime of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela after the kidnapping and murder of Venezuelan Lieutenant (R) Ronald Ojeda in Independencia, which led Chile Vamos and the Republican Party to request his resignation as advisor.

This time, he gave an interview to Radio New World, where this Friday morning – before the discussion of precautionary guarantees requested by Jadue’s lawyer, Ramón Sepúlveda – he defended the communal authority and compared its situation with what happened during the dictatorship period. The government, for its part, has distanced itself “from political interpretations” in the case of the mayor, as stated by the spokesperson minister, Camila Vallejo.

The journalist, who serves as a security advisor, highlighted that after the Investigative Police (PDI) prevented the mayor from boarding a plane to Venezuela due to a “preventive alert,” an attempt has been made to install that the communal chief would flee the country.

“We made a statement. There are multiple voices that have been expressed and raised in the last few hours. I believe that in a very ill-intentioned, very perverse, very undemocratic, very violent way, even from right-wing sectors and related media (…) “They have tried to install this idea that little more than Daniel Jadue was escaping and that little less than he was going to request asylum in Venezuela,” he said. Lagos added that “for us it is pathetic, but they install it (…).”

“An arbitrariness is being committed here that is very typical of the time of the dictatorship. During the dictatorship, these types of situations occurred, when we also all experienced persecution, violent, direct persecution.. I believe that this point is of extraordinary gravity and we share that Daniel’s legal defense takes all the actions that need to be done,” said the historic leader of the Communist Party.

According to Lagos, prior to the hearing for protection of precautionary guarantees discussed this Friday, where the allegations of Jadue’s defense were rejected, he established dialogue with different lawyers, who suggested file protection or amparo actions.

In that sense, he endorsed the statement made by the Political Commission of the Communist Party and assured that “there are people from the academic world, lawyers, even people from the world of the Judiciary (…) who have affirmed, have made statements, in relation to that there was no precautionary measure here and, therefore, “It was not appropriate to do what was done, which was an arbitrary measure.”

In Lagos’ opinion, this episode is comparable to what happened during the dictatorship, when “The presumption of innocence was violated.”

Likewise, during the interview, he pointed out against the Criminal Procedure Reform “whose political responsibility lies with the governments of the Concertación and the right. The left has had nothing to do with it, least of all the Communist Party.”

“This reform has left the consequences that we have And for some reason, the majority of citizens in this country feel so violated with the way justice is administered. That is the real context and it seems to me that once again “Daniel Jadue is the victim of a tremendously arbitrary situation,” said Lagos.

Likewise, he assured that this episode against the communal chief adds to what he called an “anti-communist” campaign. “We communists have nothing to exaggerate (…) anti-communism in Chile is fierce, it is practical, it has a history. It is highly dangerous, because what it seeks is to generate fear, generate terror, because that is: state terrorism, terrorism in its different formulas.. So that? To stop the great social transformations that citizens are demanding,” said Lagos.
