“It is going to end up costing us”: Boric’s warning for unfulfilled demands of the social outbreak

Within the framework of the 2024 Annual Construction Meeting, organized by the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC), the President Gabriel Boric called to reflect on the motivations and citizen demands of the social outbreak of October 2019.

“During the last time, by some political sectors, a vision of what happened in 2019 has been established. as if it had just been an outbreak of violence and crime”, he stated.

However, the President considered it “important” to remember the “unrest and the demands that were behind the expressions, mobilization that occurred during that time.”

“If we are not able to solve it, we can postpone it, it can be swept under the rug, but ultimately The lack of social cohesion is going to end up costing us as a country”, he warned.

In that sense, he said he was committed to channeling these demands and called for “Let’s not take a shortcut in this”because “there are no easy solutions.”

This is not the first time that Boric alludes to the social outbreak in recent weeks. In fact, at the beginning of May distanced itself from some emblematic symbols such as “killer dog”ensuring that his figure was “crude” and “degrading”.

I never entertained nor did this crude image of that dog make any sense to me., from the ‘killapacos dog’, as they called him. You will never find a statement of mine celebrating or showing off that,” she expressed on that occasion.

When asked about the actions of the Carabineros during the social outbreak, the Head of State stated that police officials were not prepared for what happened at that time: “There were human rights violations and it makes no sense to ignore it. So, I don’t regret having raised my voice at that moment to say ‘this is wrong, we have to stop it.'”
