Israeli Foreign Minister called Petro “anti-Semitic”

This Wednesday afternoon, the minister of Israeli Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz, called him “anti-Semitic and full of hate” to the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petroafter he announced the definitive diplomatic break with Israel.

Through his X account, the Israeli authority assured that Petro “promised to reward Hamas murderers and rapists, and today he fulfilled his promise.”

In the same publication, Katz warned that “history will remember that Gustavo Petro decided to side with the most despicable monsters known to humanity who burned babies, murdered children, raped women and kidnapped innocent civilians.”

“The Relations between Israel and Colombia have always been warm and no anti-Semitic, hate-filled president can change that.. The State of Israel will continue to protect its citizens without fear and without fear,” she closed.

His message against the Colombian President was born as a result of the statements that Petro issued in the middle of a demonstration for International Workers’ Day, surrounded by supporters, he stated that “Tomorrow diplomatic relations with the State of Israel will be broken (…) for having a government, for having a genocidal president”.

And he stated that “Countries cannot remain passive in the face of events in Gaza”.

This has not been the only episode that has put diplomacy between the two nations in check, since conflict broke out between Israel and Hamas, the Colombian President has proven to be against the Israeli war actions in Gaza.

In October 2023, through his X account, Petro expressed that “Gaza today appears as destroyed or more destroyed than the Warsaw ghetto after in response to the Jewish and socialist insurrection in that concentration camp it was destroyed by Nazi barbarity.”

In the publication he specified that “140 Palestinian boys and girls have been bombed dead. They were not Hamas militants. Hamas and the Israeli right feed each other in blood”.

What caused the reproach from the Jewish community and the authorities in Israel were quick to take action. After these statements, They stopped security exports to Colombia.

Another of the key events in this outcome of the definitive break in relations with the Middle Eastern country occurred when Petro called the Colombian ambassador in Israel for consultations – just as President Gabriel Boric did – arguing that “if Israel does not stop the massacre of the Palestinian people, we cannot be there”.
