He National Electoral Institute confirmed that it will continue with the procedures for the organization of the election of judges and magistrates of the Judicial Branch.
The determination occurs after the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court would invalidate the protection suspensions against the judicial reform and authorized the INE to continue with the organization of the process for the election by popular vote of judges.
The proposal to continue with the electoral process was presented by the magistrate Felipe de la Mata and was approved with the votes of the president of the TEPJF, Monica Sotoand the magistrate Felipe Alfredo Fuentes Barrada.
Felipe de la Mata in his presentation assured that protection judges do not have the competence to resolve suspensions on electoral issues.
The INE reported that it will abide by the resolution issued by the Electoral Court. The opinion indicates that it is constitutionally unfeasible to suspend acts that are related to the development of the electoral processes in charge of the institute.
The electoral body assured that the TEPJF ruling “brings clarity and certainty so that the INE fulfills its state function of organizing elections and guaranteeing the electoral political rights of the Mexicans.”
At the beginning of October, the electoral institute requested a declaratory action from the TEPJF to determine whether it is valid to continue with the electoral process for the election of judges, after several suspensions were presented against the judicial reform.
The president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddeireported that more than 140 notifications had been submitted for suspend the election which will take place in June 2025.
The electoral institute reiterated its respect for the constitutional framework and its commitment to organizing authentic and transparent free elections. He added that he will continue working to guarantee the exercise of the vote for all citizens.
Commissioner rejects INE statement
After confirmation from the INE to continue the Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Judicial Branch of the Federation 2024-2025the Electoral Counselor, Dania Revelspoke out against the position of the electoral body.
Dania Ravel assured that she was not consulted in the preparation of the statement and assured that what was stated by the INE does not reflect her point of view and interpretation in relation to what was dictated by the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Court.
