After a long and costly road, Daniel Bárez—one of the fighters of MMA most loved in Spain— has made history and has achieved his first victory in the UFC. After a stumble in his debut and a serious skull injury, The Valencian defeated Victor Altamirano last Saturday at UFC Paris.
Barez put on a great show, but he also suffered. Despite this, he is determined to continue down the same path and is clear about who he wants to be his next rival: the Mexican Ronaldo ‘Lazy Boy’ Rodríguez.
The one from Burjassot expressed his wish during the press conference after the fight. “I’m old, I’m not here to waste time. There is a fighter who fought in the Sphere, I respect him a lot. He said that whoever fought with him had to be willing to die; Well, I am willing to die,” Bárez said in response to a question from journalist Álvaro Colmenero. “Lazy Boy, tell me time and place, and let’s do it.”said the Spanish fighter.
Lazy Boy still doesn’t have ranking in the flyweight division, but his career supports it: a record of 18-2, with seven victories by KO and five by submission. “I think he has the courage to fight the three rounds with me on top, without going to the demolition. Let’s have a fight striking and give the fans what they want to see”, Barez stated.
Rodríguez is one of the most promising Mexican fighters. The one from Chiapas was one of the protagonists of UFC Night, where defeated Ode Osbourne by unanimous decision in one of the fights on the main card of the night.
The recovery
For now, Dani Bárez will have to recover from the fight against Altamiranoin which – in the absence of confirmation – everything indicates that he broke his nose. After spending two and a half months in his preparation camp in Mexico, the Valencian fighter expressed his desire to stay at home for a while with his partnerwith whom she is expecting her first child.
