Gudas provoked the Norwegian star. I love this, he admitted after a heated duel

After a tactical performance against Finland, the Czech national team played a significantly more heated match against Norway at the World Hockey Championship. As expected, the well-known tough guy Radko Gudas was seen a lot in it. The 33-year-old defender met on the ice several times in a duel with Mats Zuccarello, once he weakened the team when he put a fallen helmet on his head, and once he won a power play when he provoked the Norwegian leader into a foul. “I love this,” admitted the Anaheim defender after a tough duel.

Czech victory 6:3 but it was not easy at all. Although the home team jumped into the lead in the packed O2 arena after the intervention of captain Roman Červenka, they conceded three times and had to catch up. That is also why the end of the third period was heated and all kinds of skirmishes began to arise on the ice. Of course, Gudas could not be missing from them either.

The famous hard-liner received a penalty for a minor scuffle, and before the break, when leaving the penalty bench, he bumped Norwegian star Mats Zuccarello with his shoulder. “I was looking the other way and saw him at the last moment. If I can get under their skin, it’s better for us if they focus more on me than on hockey,” said the Czech defenseman after the game.

He later met Zuccarello in several other situations. The Norwegian forward, who plays for Minnesota in the NHL, took down Gudas sharply in the center circle in the third period, and just moments later the two players met again, which resulted in the ejection of the experienced Nor. The clashes between the two leaders were certainly no accident.

After the win with the Finns came trouble. However, the Czechs eventually defeated Norway at the World Hockey Championships

“Then they put us on defense, they pushed more on offense, so our defensive backs played more. In the end, he even took two minutes for me, that’s only good,” smiled Gudas.

“Unfortunately, I weakened the team once, but I learned from it and now I know what the rules are. The next time someone takes off my helmet, I’ll be on the bench,” the experienced fullback recalled his exclusion from the second period. The Kladno native lost his helmet in a fight with an opponent, which he then put on and was very surprised when he received a penalty for illegal equipment. It didn’t help that the referee was yelling at him that he had to come on as a substitute.

“I had no idea. There is so much noise that sometimes I can’t even hear myself,” Gudas commented on the situation and did not fail to appreciate the fantastic scenery in the arena.

“Great atmosphere, I enjoy it when the whole stadium is jumping and moving. It is super. To have such support, I would like everyone to experience it,” praised the Czech defender.

One of the best captains

Finally, thanks to his contribution, the choice of coach Radim Rulík was able to turn the tide and went on to win 6:3. “I believed in us. Just like the other 23 guys that are here. No one hung their heads, we all believed in each other and knew that we had the puck on our stick, we had chances and we were better,” Gudas said.

The key to the big turnaround? The performance of captain Červenka, who scored twice in his jubilee 200th game for the national team. “You need to have a player like him in the team. A player who can hold it can come up with something extra. He is one of the best captains we could wish for here. I am very happy that he is here, that he is doing well and leading us in such a direction. If he hadn’t played this well, I don’t know if we would have been able to turn it around,” admitted one of Červenka’s representatives in the captain’s role.

Now Gudas and the rest of the team have a one-day break. The Czechs will return to action again on Monday, when they will challenge Switzerland from 20:20.
