Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington grew audibly emotional in a recent podcast after a medium spoke to her about her late mother.
Luddington plays Dr. Josephine “Jo” Wilson in the ABC series, having joined the cast in 2012. She hosts the podcast Call It What It Is alongside her friend and former Grey’s Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw. Capshaw became a regular on the medical drama as pediatric surgeon Arizona Robbins. She left in March 2018 after starring in 11 seasons of the hit show.
Although Luddington and Capshaw’s characters weren’t close on Grey’s Anatomy, the pair became friends off-screen. Now the two women talk about their lives and share interesting stories on their podcast. During Monday’s episode, titled “Call It with Theresa Caputo,” the two women spoke to Caputo, a medium, about life after death.

Luddington revealed that Caputo was the first medium she’d ever spoken to and Caputo admitted she could sense that the podcast host was guarded.
“I think that I have family members that are not into it, right? So, and so that is a little hard. And also I feel like, I guess my question is, if someone’s on the other si—sorry,” Luddington said, cutting herself off as she audibly grew emotional.
Caputo said: “I just felt that you needed to know that the soul knows of the woman you’ve become, has not missed out on your life—you have children, ’cause I see the soul, it’s a mother figure, so I don’t know if it’s your grandmother or an aunt or someone like a mom or your actual mom by holding souls of children before coming here into the physical world, so knowing of your children.”
When asked, Luddington confirmed that she had children before Caputo continued: “OK, and do you feel like you see this soul in your child? Whether it be their eyes or an action, is that correct?”
“No, it’s funny, it’s my mother that’s on the other side. And um, she’s been gone a long time and I see her—” by this point, Luddington was clearly emotional, as she cut herself off as she began to cry. “It’s OK, sorry…I see her with my daughter, my daughter is very similar.”
Caputo then claimed that even if Luddington’s daughter never met her grandmother, or doesn’t even know who she is, she still might have a connection with her.
“My daughter, I thought when she was little she saw my mom,” Luddington said before Caputo added: “Perfect, know that that was real. Know that that was the soul showing [itself]—young children and animals are very sensitive to the souls of the departed.
“Because we as adults, our minds are so busy with burdens and guilt and just business of the day. Young children, their minds are free, that’s why they say ‘Kids say the darndest things,’ right? And a lot of times it’s the truth because they just say what it is they’re feeling.”
Luddington then asked whether the fact that her mother was raised Catholic would prevent her from coming through.”
“No,” the medium responded. “I’ve had souls tell me, ‘Oh my god, I was afraid they weren’t going to come through because they were an atheist, they didn’t have a faith, they didn’t have a religion.'”
She also explained that souls use her body as a physical vessel so that they can communicate with their loved ones.
In 2020, Luddington took to Instagram to commemorate her late mom, who died when the actor was younger.
“My mum died 17 years ago today. I believe she visits me in my dreams ❤️ whenever she is in them they are always so incredibly vivid and I always remember them in the morning. I miss her everyday but I know she is still with me,” she wrote.
