Goodbye, birthday boy. Pastrňák saved Boston in overtime and refused to come to Prague

Czech striker David Pastrňák gave his Boston a hard-fought 2:1 win over Toronto in the decisive seventh game of the series with a goal in overtime and at the same time advanced to the second round of the overseas NHL playoffs. However, the leadership of the hockey national team is definitely not happy, as the Bruins’ victory significantly reduced the chance that the famous 88 and his teammate Pavel Zacha will play at the home World Cup. On the other hand, the season ended for striker David Kämpf.

Just like in 2018 and 2019, when the teams of Boston and Toronto met at the start of the elimination battles in the NHL, the fate of the balanced series was decided only by the seventh duel. And this time too, it was the Bruins hockey players who, in a heroic finish, advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Conference.

In the second minute of overtime, Czech hero David Pastrňák guided Boston to victory, who got to the rebounded puck in the area in front of the goal and with a backhand bluff punctuated the advancement celebrations in the TD Garden.

“Obviously it’s a huge moment,” the Bruins hero said after the game. “Feelings? A lot of excitement, but also a little relief. It was a close game again, so it’s great that we came through. We couldn’t be more proud of ourselves,” said Pastrňák, who scored his third goal in the playoffs.

“David really played a god game,” praised the performance of his colleague from the attack and captain Brad Marchand. “He was fully involved in it, he knew he needed to show a big performance. And he succeeded,” he added.

Pasta showed how a true leader behaves

The native of Havířov responded in the best possible way to criticism of Boston coach Jim Montgomery. The Bruins coach said after the last game that the leaders have to be the best on the ice and that they have to come up with more in these games. He named Pastrňák, who two days later became the hero of the seventh duel.

“With his attitude, he showed us all how a good leader behaves. I was really happy to see the incredible maturity of our entire cabin in the seventh duel,” revealed Montgomery.

Czech hockey players will enter the last phase of preparation before the home World Cup on Thursday evening.

What was heard in the talk show about the World Cup: The legendary boss trusts Rulík, Pastrňák was also discussed

He was already convinced at the pre-game skating that his offensive leader took the harsh words to heart. “I saw a smile on his face in the morning. He comes to me and says: What’s up, coach, did you sleep well? At that moment I knew it was going to be a great evening,” he laughed in an interview after the match.

Pastrňák himself briefly returned to the incident. “The coach said what he said. If I were the coach, I would tell you the same thing. He tries to get the best out of every player, he expected more from me. That’s not enough,” concluded the famous 88.

Losing a 3-1 lead in the series, Boston trailed from the 50th minute on a goal by William Nylander. However, defender Hampus Lindholm equalized in just 81 seconds, after which Pastrňák also made his mark after throwing the puck from the middle zone. The Czech attacker scored a total of five points (3+2) in the series.

Complications for the national team before the WC

The Bruins will meet in the second round with a rested Florida, which decisively eliminated Tampa Bay in five games. However, this means complications for the national team, which has promised itself great things since the arrival of the Czech forwards in Boston’s services. Now their participation in the domestic championship is more of a question of utopia.

Even so, it can be expected that the coaching team led by Radim Rulík will keep at least one free place in the lineup for David Pastrňák. Just in case the series with Florida takes an unexpected turn. However, Boston remains in play for the Stanley Cup until at least May 12.

On the other hand, the season ended for Toronto striker David Kämpf, who should be available for the World Cup. However, the rest is already in the hands of the management of the hockey team.
