Binding Culture Prize 2024 goes to art initiative “Frankfurt LAB”

The 2024 Binding Culture Prize, worth 50,000 euros, goes to the “Frankfurt LAB” association. “In the rooms of a former factory on Schmidtstrasse in the Gallusviertel, the Frankfurt Lab has created a production and performance space that is suitable for meeting the growing questions and requirements in contemporary performing art and music,” said the statement Jury.

The “Frankfurt LAB – the modern music, theater and dance laboratory for Frankfurt RheinMain eV” is a joint initiative of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, the Ensemble Modern, the Hessian Theater Academy, the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and the “Artist *inner house Mousonturm”. The association stands for a special cooperation between Frankfurt institutions and a place that brings theater, music, performance and young artists into a productive exchange, said head of the cultural department Ina Hartwig (SPD) about the decision.

The prize will be presented on June 1st in Frankfurt’s Paulskirche. With the Binding Culture Prize, the Binding Cultural Foundation, which has existed since 1995, honors outstanding cultural achievements in Frankfurt and Rhine-Main, which are intended to receive recognition beyond the region. Last year the award went to the “Lichter Filmkultur” association for its “Lichter Filmfest Frankfurt International”.
