On December 3, 1994, the PlayStation 1 landed in Japan, before experiencing international success the following year with its marketing in North America and Europe in September 1995. And to properly celebrate these three decades of existence, Sony is offering its users the opportunity to delve back into the past .

From now on, it is the PS1 startup theme that is presented to players when they turn on their latest generation console this Tuesday, December 3. A nostalgic surprise which visibly delighted fans of this console. The one through which a large number of players discovered video games in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

But Sony’s surprises don’t stop with the launch of these credits which made players shiver as much as crack up (a well-known bug caused the console to crash after the credits rolled). It is thus possible to choose between the introductory credits of the PS1, PS2, PS3 or PS4. A special 30th anniversary credits is also available.

Moreover, the modifications go beyond the credits, since it is also possible to modify the theme of the home menu to find the icons, menus and presentation of multimedia content as they were presented on the PS2 for example.

Queen of consoles “retro”

However, some players were saddened to see that the sound and graphic ambiance made available for this 30th anniversary will only be ephemeral. Indeed, a console presentation page specifies that these options are available for “ a limited duration “.

This 30th anniversary still allowed many players to take their old console out of the closet, as well as the game collections that go with it. Without forgetting the iconic memory cards, an essential tool at the time for saving a game.

Metal Gear Solid, tomb Raider, resident Evil, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Driver or even Rayman, Spyro And Crash Bandicoot for younger players. Nostalgia for retro games has undeniably come knocking at the doors of those who still own the very first “play”.

Sony’s original console remains one of the best-selling consoles in the world to this day. Without taking into account portable consoles such as the Game Boy or Nintendo DS, the PS1 is the fourth best-selling console of all time, behind the PS2, the Nintendo Switch and the PS4, with no less than 102 million copies sold worldwide.
