Executive sets deadline for pension reform in the Senate

At an event that took place at the Workers’ Hospital of the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS), the President attended Gabriel Borictogether with the Minister of Labor Jeannette Jara, to commemorate a new day of Labor Day.

The minister had words to refer to the labor and pension agenda that the government has promoted, such as the 40-hour law and the increase in the minimum wagestating that “Both things have been the product of work from tripartism”.

“Employers, workers and the government agree, not without differences, without different perspectives on the issues, but they manage to agree on the core, and with that we have managed to move forward,” said Jara.

Likewise, the head of Labor highlighted initiatives such as the Karin Law and ILO Convention 190. He also pointed out that, since the government took office, “they have recovered nearly 500 thousand jobsand that is fundamental for families, and therefore it is fundamental for those of us who have public responsibilities.”

We have increased coverage through the short PGU law“, Jara also assessed in pension matters, but adding that “without a doubt we have a fundamental challenge left.”

Along these lines, he pointed out that “in Chile There are one and a half million pensioners who need to improve their well-beingbecause it is very difficult for them to make ends meet, and they do not have enough to live, and that is a reality.”

“I hope that principles such as solidarity can be echoed in matters of pensions,” said Jara.

Regarding this, President Boric stated that “In terms of labor, in terms of growth, in terms of pensions, let’s put Chile ahead.”

“We have had differences for too long, but I have no doubt that if we put Chile first we will reach agreements, but time is running out“, indicated the president, setting a deadline for the vote on the pension reform.

“I hope that in May, the pension reform will be voted on in general in the Senate commission”, ended.
