Girona player Reinier used the internet to vent after being the victim of racism in his team’s game against Getafe, at Coliseu Alfonso Pérez, last Saturday (4). The former Flamengo athlete posted the hashtag “NãoAoRacismo” with a black and white photo.
According to the Spanish press, Reinier was called a “monkey” on the field by Uruguayan Damián Suárez, from the opposing team. The defender took his hand to his mouth so as not to be caught uttering prejudiced words against the Brazilian player.
In addition to the former Flamengo, Suárez would also have harassed other players during the match. Among these, Miguel Gutiérrez.
In Instagram’s “stories”, Reinier made reference to the fact with the song “Olho de Tigre”, by rapper Djonga. The song addresses racial prejudice. Getafe has not yet commented on the episode with the former Flamengo athlete.
Loaned to Girona by Real Madrid, Reinier is the second Brazilian from the Merengue club to suffer racial prejudice in Spain. Striker Vinícius Júnior was defamed in games and during a television program.
