England football fans have not all reacted too well to the landmark news that Thomas Tuchel as agreed to become the next England manager.

The German boss was revealed to have been in advanced talks on Tuesday night with the Football Association, before taking up the offer to become the next Three Lions head coach.

Tuchel has agreed to become the third foreign boss to take the England hot seat after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, and is set to assume command as the permanent successor to Gareth Southgate.

The agreement has paved the way for the arrival of a coach with a wealth of top European honours behind him – including the Champions League and domestic cup silverware in three different countries – though not all fans are pleased with the FA’s choice.

‘Those in the media who hounded Gareth Southgate out of a job, good luck with Thomas Tuchel,’ wrote one.

‘A German who ultimately failed with Bayern Munich & who has zero experience with international football is taking on England’s biggest job. Remember that you all said that only first counts!’

Another added: ‘This is dreadful – should be the best of ours against the best of yours – foreign coaches haven’t worked they don’t get it.’

For a third fan Tuchel was seemingly no improvement on Southgate, writing: ‘Poor choice and wont be any better than Southgate.’

That sentiment was taken up by a fourth, who added: ‘They found one of the few managers that has a worse play-style than Southgate.’

Another branded Tuchel an ‘underachiever’, claiming: ‘England FA will never miss with hiring underachievers as managers to waste different generations of players they are blessed with. Smh.’

Lee Carsley has been in interim charge of the Three Lions since Southgate’s departure, and the Under-21s boss will still take the helm for November’s clashes with Republic of Ireland and Greece.

Tuchel will have one of the most talented squads in the world at his disposal with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Harry Kane all among the best in Europe in their positions.

That combined with his thoroughly impressive cv has seen plenty of England fans see much to be optimistic about after it was announced an agreement had been reached on Tuesday evening.

‘What an appointment! Best on the market and a proven track record in knockout football. Couldn’t care less what country the manager comes from, so long as they’re right for the role,’ said one.

Another added: ‘England can now win the euros and World Cup. He’s a monster with knock out competitions.’

And a third was clearly over the moon with the decision: ‘Big congratulations to Thomas Tuchel on landing the England manager role! Wishing him the best as he takes on this challenge.

‘It’s going to be exciting to see how he shapes the team and what new ideas he brings to the table. Here’s hoping for great things ahead for England under his leadership!’
