The Emilia Foundation has been working for 10 years in the road safety awareness, especially in the behaviors that as a society must be followed to avoid and reduce the number of accidents.

According to information recovered by the foundation’s research center, only 33% of the inspected drivers indicate that they comply with the regulations for the use of Child Restraint Systems (CRS)despite the fact that these reduce injuries in a road accident by 67%.

Furthermore, the investigation found that In 2023, 68 children and adolescents (NNA) died in the development of traffic events and of them, 45 (66%) were passengers.

Finally, Between 2014 and 2023 there were more than 640 infants between 1 and 14 years old who died in road accidents, being the month of January where the most events occurred. The most vulnerable group was those aged 1 to 5 years, accounting for 48% of the deaths in the last decade.

“Children are subjects of rights and that is why it is important to respect and protect their right to safe mobility. Despite the reforms to the traffic law, we continue to observe little use of CRS, which It has encouraged us to build alliances that allow us to make the problems visible and begin to change behaviors.“, says Carolina Figueroa, president of the foundation.

And he adds: “From that perspective, the link with Early Childhood Education careers in different universities in the country has been transcendental, seeking to generate material that allows teaching from early childhood the right to safe mobility.”

In that context, the Emilia Foundation will hold a series of seminars to reinforce and promote the main safety measures that should be known if you have children under 12 years of age in the family group or on board a vehicle.
