  • The bourgeois party HDZ of incumbent Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic will be the strongest political force in the parliamentary elections in Croatia.
  • However, the HDZ failed to secure an absolute majority to form a government.
  • This is shown by projections based on preliminary partial results.

After 31.7 percent of the ballots were counted, the HDZ and its four allies received 37.3 percent of the votes and received 65 of the 151 parliamentary seats in the Sabor, the Croatian parliament. That divided them central election commission in Zagreb with.

Andrej Plenkovic throws his ballot paper into the urn and gives a thumbs up.

According to these figures, the left-liberal opposition alliance Rijeke Pravde (Rivers of Justice) came in second place with 41 mandates and 26.1 percent of the vote. The alliance is close to President Zoran Milanovic.

The right-wing nationalist party Domovinski Pokret (Homeland Movement) took third place with 10 seats, which correspond to 6.4 percent of the vote.

Voter turnout was very high: just two and a half hours before the polls closed, it was 50.6 percent. It was therefore higher than the overall turnout in the previous 2020 elections, which was 46.9 percent at the time.
