Among the planned swing state events this week, the Harris and Trump campaigns were dominated by two big events: the vice presidential debate between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, and Hurricane Helene, a powerful storm that effected millions of Americans across the South.
Newsweek has gathered together some of the pictorial highlights of the campaign from the past seven days.

Vice President Kamala Harris visited the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, a key swing state. Her previous position as the so-called “border czar” has been one of the Trump campaign’s key criticisms of her immigration record, with Harris attempting to show authority on the issue in response.
Former President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York. Trump has frequently argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have dared invade Ukraine if he had been president in 2022, and has pitched himself as a stabilizer on foreign policy throughout the campaign.

Harris took part in a panel featuring actor Anthony Ramos at Florida International University. Younger voters are a core part of Harris’ base, but encouraging them to turn out and vote has historically been difficult.
Trump was met with applause when he attended a college football game in Alabama, which is a solidly Republican state. He later contrasted his reception there with Harris’.

Harris speaks at a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada. The swing state is one of the smallest in terms of the Electoral College, with just six votes, but it could be decisive if the election remains close.
Trump held a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, revisiting what is considered by many to be the most pivotal swing state in the election. At the rally, he focused on the economy and immigration- the two issues that he still holds leads over Harris on.

As vice president, Kamala Harris has access to Air Force Two, and has been using it frequently to travel across the country.
Trump was the first candidate to visit the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, arriving in Georgia to give a speech blasting the federal government’s response. Harris also visited the area later in the week after speaking at the FEMA headquarters.

The vice presidential debate between Walz and Vance was the most recent time the two campaigns formally agreed to meet. With a little over a month left in the race, this could have been the last time, as well.
Republicans in Arizona hosted a watch party for the debate, which was the final opportunity for the candidates to make their pitch to the electorate with an opponent onstage.

Harris visited communities in Meadowbrook, Georgia and was seen comforting families who had lost their homes in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Georgia also remains a key swing state in the election race.
The “Christians Against Trump” movement inflated a large balloon designed to look like Trump as a wrecking bull by the Capitol building, in reference to his alleged incitement of the January 6 riots last election.
October 3
Harris attended a Wisconsin rally in alliance with Liz Cheney, after the former Republican congresswoman announced that both she and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, would be voting for Harris in November.
In the neighboring state of Michigan, Trump spoke at a rally with Senate candidate Mike Rogers, who has the former president’s endorsement. Rogers is one of several down-ballot Republicans hoping to ride Trump’s coattails to success this election.
