Eintracht Frankfurt Women: Just one more step to Europe |

Frankfurt Eintracht can secure a place in the Champions League qualification. In the home game against SC Freiburg it doesn’t take much.

The decision is approaching: Eintracht Frankfurt’s footballers are about to qualify for the Champions League on the penultimate matchday of the women’s Bundesliga. To achieve the season’s goal, all we need is a draw in the home game against SC Freiburg this Monday evening (7:30 p.m.).

“I personally see it as a sign that we have the chance to win the Champions League at home with our fans,” said Frankfurt defender Verena Hanshaw will move to AS Roma in the summerand added: “We definitely want to use our first match point. I have a good feeling.”

In theory, only Essen can catch up with Eintracht

It would be better to cheer in your own stadium at the Brentanobad instead of on the sofa at home – the latter almost happened. Since on Friday evening they were in fourth place before the match day TSG Hoffenheim blew their game in Leipzig (0-3 defeat)the Frankfurt women can now only be overtaken by SGS Essen, at least theoretically.

The Ruhrstadt team narrowly beat 1. FC Köln 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, climbing to fourth place and playing the ball back to Eintracht. This happened in a less completed game in the table three points ahead.

Freiburg is the favorite opponent

“Our goal is very clear: We want to win in order to qualify internationally with one match day to go,” said Eintracht coach Niko Arnautis. The anticipation is great to be able to take this small step in front of our own fans. If that doesn’t work, a point would also be needed for third place on the final match day against Cologne. Essen will then play against runner-up VfL Wolfsburg.

There have already been three duels for the Hessians this season with SC Freiburg. During the summer preparation, Eintracht won a friendly 3-1, in the league they won 4-0 in the first leg, and the Arnautis team also won the DFB Cup round of 16 2-1. SC Freiburg, nothing less than Eintracht’s favorite opponent. Europe is within reach.
