Eintracht Frankfurt Women back on course for the Champions League | hessenschau.de

The Eintracht Frankfurt footballers took advantage of a mistake by TSG Hoffenheim and climbed back to third place in the table. The home game against Nuremberg is anything but off to an ideal start.

The good news for the Eintracht Frankfurt footballers arrived before kick-off of the home game on Saturday against 1. FC Nürnberg. The direct competition for third place in the Bundesliga, TSG Hoffenheim, had made a mistake shortly before, somewhat surprisingly losing 2-1 at SGS Essen. This meant for Eintracht: With a win against the penultimate team from Franconia, the Frankfurt team were able to in the table pass Hoffenheim again into the coveted Champions League qualifying place three. The project succeeded.

Despite an early deficit, Eintracht ultimately prevailed quite easily with 4:1 (3:1). Sara Doorsoun (5th), Nicole Anyomi twice (31st and 41st) and Lara Prasnikar (64th) scored after Selma Sol Magnusdottir (1st) had put the Nuremberg women in the lead.

Two corners bring goals

After just 52 seconds, Eintracht coach Niko Arnautis’ team fell behind thanks to a corner converted by Magnusdottir, with goalkeeper Stina Johannes looking pretty bad. The reaction of the Frankfurt women last week made a mistake in Leverkusen and gave up third place, but promptly followed suit.

After just five minutes, captain Doorsoun equalized. The national defender completed an initially blocked corner from the edge of the penalty area with the inside of the ball under the crossbar.

Anyomi scores twice

From then on, Eintracht was the better team – and they were rewarded. Anyomi scored a brace before the break. Both times she scored from close range (31st and 41st). They were her eight and nine goals this season, meaning she is now second in the league in this ranking.

After the break, the hosts didn’t let anything go wrong, had the game under control and even increased the result. Prasnikar scored to make the final score 4-1 (64′). Also Sophia Kleinherne, who had just extended her contractplayed a solid game.

The next match day, on May 4th, could decide the race for third place. Then Eintracht will take on TSG Hoffenheim with a one-point lead.
