This Tuesday, Queen Sofía received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the CEU San Pablo University in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the promotion of culture and the promotion of the arts, her extraordinary commitment to the social and healthcare field, and her life. of exemplary dedication and dedication to Spain and the Spanish people.
The investiture ceremony, presided over by University authorities, began at 12:00 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Montepríncipe Campus. Ten minutes later, Doña Sofía appeared to applause, a great ovation that almost covered the music of the event.
The president of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, Benigno Pendás García, was in charge of delivering the laudatio during the ceremony. During his speech, he made reference to the name of Felipe VI’s mother, Sofía, which means wisdom. He has also highlighted the virtues of Greece, his homeland of origin, and Spain, his elective homeland.
After pointing out that Doña Sofía is the granddaughter, daughter, wife, mother and future grandmother of kings and queens, Pendás García said: “You can be happy and satisfied with your contribution to the history of Spain.” Likewise, he has highlighted his solidarity role, recalling, for example, his “immediate reaction” after DANA by promoting a food bank.
This solemn academic event has brought together prominent members of the university community, representatives of cultural and social institutions.
The Queen has accepted the award of the title of honorary doctor by the CEU San Pablo University, at the proposal of its rector, Pink Visied. And the CEU USP thus becomes the first private Spanish university who receives the Queen’s acceptance to join the faculty of her university community, which she enriches with her unquestionable merits.
Doña Sofía has also received this high academic distinction from the Universities of Rosario (Bogotá), Valladolid, Cambridge, Oxford, Georgetown, Évora, New York and Seisen (Tokyo).
