A dachshund has left internet viewers in stitches after blocking the doggy door with his backside, refusing to let his brother through.
Kiya Grappo (@kiyaleesi) shared the hilarious footage on Reddit, where it quickly racked up more than 1,100 upvotes in the popular r/Dachshund thread. The video features her dog, Archie, preventing his brother, Remy, from passing through the doggy door.
“I had heard Remy growling for a few minutes while I was making dinner before I looked over and saw what was happening,” Grappo told Newsweek.
“I started recording at that point when Remy had escalated to barking at his brother. I had never seen this happen before, although Archie does love to sit in the dog door with his butt still inside. Usually he just moves when Remy wants outside, but I suppose he wasn’t feeling it that night.”
Archie’s defiance became even more hilarious after it became a repeat offense. “It’s funny because, after I caught this interaction on video, the same situation happened about a week later. It seems that Archie, the younger, but larger, of my two boys, is tired of being bossed around by his older, but much smaller, brother Remy,” Grappo added.
In the clip, Remy can be seen barking in frustration as he tries to get Archie to budge, but his sibling remains firmly planted, using his behind as a doorstop.
Eventually, Grappo had to intervene to encourage Archie through the door so Remy could pass through.
Doggy doors are designed to offer convenience for both pets and their owners, allowing pups the freedom to go in and out as they please.
However, as seen in Archie’s antics, sometimes dogs take full advantage of their access in creative, and obstructive, ways. It is important to consider security, weather, and the potential for wildlife intrusion when deciding if a doggy door is right for your home.
“Remy usually calls the shots in their relationship; I guess that might be changing. Archie is usually the more passive of the two. We like to say that Remy is the king of our house, and, well, everyone basically,” Grappo added.
This dynamic of dominant and passive personalities is common in dog households. While dominance doesn’t mean aggression, it’s more about which canine takes the lead in decision-making and activities.
As viewers watched the video, they couldn’t get enough of the hilarious sibling rivalry.
“That’s such a classic sibling moment. So adorable, thanks for sharing!” one user commented.
“This is great!!” added another, while a third posted a personal anecdote. “Omg [oh my God]. My youngest doxie does this to her sister on the daily. It is so obnoxious. Recently the older one started doing it back, and it’s hilarious to see the younger one get p****** about it.”
