What does it consist of?

Very fashionable in the 70s, it appears again in the house of 2025. Retrofuturism is characterized by a mix of retro style elements, which integrates futuristic pieces or technologies. Of course, that time, marked by the first trip to the moon and spaceships. Thus, the seventies exude sympathy and non-conformity that also translates into the decoration and its way of expressing itself.

If we pass this through the sieve of galactic and space futurespaces like ‘Wonder Galaxy’ by Patricia Bustos emerge at Casa Decor 2019. An environment where rounded shapes, the play of colors and a use of bright pinkas warm as it is modern, immerses us in a unique and special atmosphere, full of visual stimuli.

How to apply it in your home

We are not talking about a typical decorative style, so it can be difficult to integrate. First of all, if your boldness is not enough, adjust it to the level at which you and your house feel comfortable. Avoid the ‘disguise effect’since it can end in disaster. This way, you can go all out or incorporate it in small doses. In both cases, you will notice its effects. In the same way, you can integrate it only in one of your rooms, the living room (this one in Dfs) or the bathroom are two good options, and maintain a less surprising interior decoration in the rest of the home.

Free and without complexes

When yesterday meets tomorrow, a decorative shockwhere reinterprets the above so that it looks with a fresher and more innovative look. The result of this combination is less corseted and more timeless, since, by playing with time from an aesthetic point of view, nothing goes out of style, everything is modern. As contemporary as the wallpaper from the ARTE Le Corbusier-Dots collection, where color is the true protagonist. Next to it, the orange stool, the blue pouf and the lamp create a personal and free space.

Surprising and original

We are facing a style that seeks to surprise, play with decoration and experience the fusion of yesterday with tomorrow in a playful and fun way. And this living room, designed by Sinmas Studio for Casa Decor 2022, is a demonstration of how to take its surprise effect to the extreme, thanks to its futuristic atmosphere with that silver sofa that captures part of our attention, just like the orange brush strokes or the game of reflexes of the mirrors.

Textures that envelop

Wrapped in bright, bold ‘paper’, this decorating trend may seem superficial. Therefore, look for supports in textures that take away the coldness of its metallic shine, balance the chromatic explosion and promote a warm and welcoming atmosphere. To do this, along with the curved shapes, the textured textiles take on special importance. Fabrics, such as boucle wool As shown in this bold armchair from TROVE by Studio Duggan, velvet, and even leather, have their own place.

In favor of metallic shine

The chrome finishes They are in fashion, you just have to take a look around your current house and enter their metallic kitchens. But, furthermore, this style cannot be understood without those metallic shines, which provide a space and futuristic air to the atmosphere. This environment by Jonathan Adler, with a coffee table that not only catches the eye, but also acts as a large round mirror, is a demonstration of the effect it produces.

Love for ‘vintage’ pieces

The 60s and 70s come to life through the incorporation of classic and vintage piecesespecially in large furniturealthough also in secondary furniture, normally made in wood. To provide a futuristic air and create a contrast with the brown tones, chrome elements are incorporated, as in this Westwing proposal with the low sideboard (a very fashionable piece) with the metal wall decoration.

Curved and rounded shapes

Wishing to surprise, but without ever losing the need to create enveloping and inviting atmospheres from the radar of its style cues, rounded shapes assume a leading role. The warmth of ‘bold’ decoration is not at odds with its modern appearance and its ability to convey continuity, harmony and, of course, a relaxation bonus. Shades such as browns, oranges (check it out because it will get people talking!), intense blues and warm whites are the best allies, as in this proposal from Homesense.

Powerful and warm colors

Although originally, the decoration of the 70s was more daring in the use of color, now the new situation has caused a need to return to nature, softening the most powerful tones. For this reason, browns, earths, maroons and beiges mark the line to follow, seasoned with touches of electric blue, pink either redwhich manage to energize the environment, without falling into chromatic excess and enhancing the feeling of home. In this image from Sofology, the bold touch is given by the auxiliary pieces and accessories.

Sustainable spirit

Although its daring curved shapes, powerful color contrasts and metallic finishes may give you the impression of superficiality, the retrofuturistic style adopts sustainability among its great values. That’s why, along with their spatial shine, they sneak in materials like wood or cotton, and pieces for life. In this Dunelm proposal, the slatted wooden wall (a seasonal must), the rounded bouclé wool armchair and the spectacular ceiling lamp are proof that it can be sustainable and modern both.
