Attention, skulls and catrinas! If dressing up and riding a bike is your thing, then the perfect time has come for you. As is tradition in Mexico City (CDMX), this year the Night Walk Day of the Dead 2024 in which there will be music, sound and even a costume contest.
This is what the program announced ‘Move by Bike’ of the capital that this year launched its call to participate in this family event with completely free activities, in addition to loaning bicycles, for a route that will cover a total of 20 kilometers.
To film on this evening dedicated to the faithful departed, we recommend that you prepare your most creative costume and you can even ‘tune’ your bike, skateboard or roller skates for the occasion. Also don’t forget that the famous one is approaching Day of the Dead Parade and the Catrinas Megaprocession in CDMX.
When is the Day of the Dead 2024 bike ride?
Through its social networks, Cycling Mobility of Mexico City reported that the Day of the Dead Night Walk will be done next Saturday October 26 on a schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m..
The route will start from Oil Source and will continue throughout Paseo de la Reformapassing through the Glorieta de la Diana Cazadora, the Independence Column and the Caballito. From there, you can continue along Avenida Juárez to enter the Historic Center. The ride will culminate in Izazaga.
And what happens if you don’t have a bike? No problem. Injuve will be lending bicycles from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., you just have to present your INE or your passport to request one.
In addition, to facilitate the arrival and departure of bicycles that day, the Integrated Mobility Network will allow the entry with bicycles from 17:00 in the Metro, Metrobus and Trolleybus.
Likewise, the system Ecobike will extend the time of use of bicycles to 60 minutes during the duration of the walk.
What activities will there be in the ’round of the dead’?
As in past years, the Day of the Dead Night Walk will also include special activities along the route, including a SEMOVI bike school which will be enabled from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the presentation of four musical groups that will liven up the night with cumbia, rock and mariachi rhythms.
At the height of Ahuehuete, the Embassy of the Netherlands will install a stand for a virtual tour on stationary bicycles with the help of augmented reality.
To finish, the famous costume contest in which the best characterizations of the night will be awarded at the Monument to the Revolution.
Call for the 2024 Day of the Dead costume contest
The Mobility Secretariat published the call to participate in the ‘Day of the Dead’ costume contestwithin the framework of the Muévete en Bici Night Ride next Saturday, October 26, on the esplanade of the Monument to the Revolution.
Categories will be limited to 30 participants and they will be divided as follows:
- Individual children-youth from 1 to 18 years.
- Individual adult from 19 years and older.
- Adult couple 19 years and older.
The Registration will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.on one side of the stage located in the Monument to the Revolution and participants must provide the name of their costume, age and which mayor or municipality they come from.
The costumes must meet the requirement of representing the Mandatory theme ‘Traditional Mexican Day of the Dead’. In addition, having used a bicycle and/or recycled materials as part of the costume will be taken into account for a better grade.
As for the awardthis will take place that same day at 10:00 p.m.on the stage located in the Monument to the Revolution. These will be the prizes that will be distributed among the winners:
- 1st place – A bicycle, backpack with glass, notebooks, keychain and pins.
- 2nd place – Reflective jacket, cycling accessories, backpack with glass, notebooks, keychain, pins and bike bell.
- 3rd place – Cycling accessories, backpack with glass, notebook, keychain, pin and bike bell.
