Daniel Craig to reunite with Luca Guadagnino for DC’s Sgt. Rock movie

Daniel Craig to reunite with Luca Guadagnino for DC’s Sgt. Rock movie

Back in September it was revealed that Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name) had been holding talks with DC Studios about directing a Sgt. Rock movie, and now comes word that the project will see the filmmaker reuniting with his Queer star Daniel Craig.

As reported by Deadline, official deals are yet to be made, but Guadagnino’s Queer and Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes has been working on the script and the director is said to be eyeing Sgt. Rock as his next project ahead of the recently-announced American Psycho remake.

Sgt. Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and made his DC Comics debut in 1959’s Our Army at War #83. A member of the U.S. Army, the no-nonsense Sgt. Frank Rock led his unit Easy Company against the Nazis during World War II (although versions of the character have also appeared in the present-day DC universe). Plans for a film adaptation date back to the 1980s with Arnold Schwarzenegger originally attached to the title role, while directors Guy Ritchie and Francis Lawrence also spent time attached to the project in more recent years.

Guadagnino and Craig’s first collaboration Queer is set to open in the U.S. this coming week; based upon the novella by William S. Burroughs, the film sees Craig playing an American expat who becomes infatuated with a younger man (Drew Starkey) he meets in Mexico City of the 1950s. Check out our video review here…
