In a bad phase since the arrival of coach Vítor Pereira, goalkeeper Santos is not having a good time at Flamengo. As a result, the number 1 shirt has been criticized by journalists and, mainly, by Red-Black fans.
Therefore, he received support from his former coach at Athletico Paranaense, Fabiano Soares. The coach, who is currently in charge of Compostela, from Spain, opened the game about the player’s moment, emphasizing confidence in Santos’ ability to recover his good form.
“The pressure at Flamengo is different. It’s a lot of people on top, fans complaining, leaders wanting answers and the press who take the foot for being Flamengo. Today, he needs to be sure that the coach trusts his work despite the bad phase”, said coach Fabiano Soares in an interview with the “OurSports” YouTube channel.
Fabiano Soares showed that he believes that Santos is capable of recovering the good phase he had when he arrived at Flamengo last year, adding great performances and calling for protagonism in the Cup’s conquests liberators from America and Brazil’s Cup.
“The technician is Portuguese (Vítor Pereira) and has his own work methodology. Santos must be going through a delicate moment due to lack of security and this needs to be worked on on a daily basis. If they give him the security he needs, Flamengo has everything to recover this player. Santos is an outstanding goalkeeper”, he concluded.
Santos was hired permanently last season by Flamengo from Athletico. Due to great performances with the red-black shirt in recent seasons, the Rio de Janeiro club decided to acquire the athlete’s pass for 3 million euros (R$ 15.5 million, at the time).
Fabiano Soares career
Little known around here, Fabiano Soares started his coaching career in 2009. He is the only Brazilian coach working in Spain where Compostela commands. Previously, he commanded Vitória-BA, Barra-SC and Estoril Praia, from Portugal.
His best work in Brazil was in 2017, when he saved Athletico from relegation in the Brazilian Championship. During his time at the club, the commander launched defensive midfielder Bruno Guimarães in the professional team, today at Newcastle, who played in the 2022 World Cup.
