Like so many Valencians who in recent days have wanted, to the best of their ability, to lend a hand and help the victims affected by the terrible e historical DANAhe chef Ricard Camarena He has not hesitated to do the same whenever he has had the opportunity. The chef, in charge of different restaurant businesses in Valencia (including his flagship, Ricard Camarena Restaurant, awarded with two Michelin stars), he immediately organized himself with his team to prepair and distribute thousands of hot food rations.
It began to happen that these meals often arrived at places that were already supplied, so, without abandoning that work, he began to turn to some alternative that could be useful on another level. That’s how last Sunday it occurred to him that the dinner he had scheduled for December 13 for the Valencian Association of Businessmen (and which had been, of course, canceled due to the catastrophe) could be maintained to turn it into a charity dinner. Furthermore, with the help from some of his professional colleagueson that date solidarity dinners could be called not only in Valencia but in different parts of the country.
The idea? Put a ticket minimum of 1000 euros and allocate the collection obtained for the reconstruction of small businesses: neighborhood stores, small bars, self-employed or SMEs with less than 20 or 25 workers…
Aware that on the ground floor of houses (in addition, of course, to families) these types of businesses tend to be mostly housed. now they have been left in ruinsCamarena wanted to put the focus of his initiative precisely there. A movement named ‘From Valencia to Valencia’ and that has the support of the Valencian Association of Businessmen.
The objective, says the chef, is to go where right now the Administration may not be able to; The urgency of the moment gives priority to the cleaning work, the reconstruction of roads, schools, hospitals… Meanwhile, and so that those affected of small businesses that They have lost everything they can begin to recover and do not have to wait for official aid to arrive, Ricard has launched these dinners that, as we say, will be held in different parts of Spain (even some of them, outside our borders).
This will be possible thanks to the collaboration of other great chefs such as Begoña Rodrigo, Quique Dacosta, Vicky Sevilla, Joan Roca, Nandu Jubany, Eneko Atxa, Javier Olleros, Massimo Bottura…
In the web specially created for this initiative, all the information related to these solidarity dinners will be available, as well as a second alternative to support the cause. Obviously, not everyone has this amount of money or the possibility of attending one of these dinners on the 13th; so it has been enabled an account (audited and active as of today, Thursday) so that everyone makes the donation they deem timely. An account that has already accumulated its first million donated by the well-known chef José Andrés, head of the NGO World Central Kitchen.
