MOUNT TREMPER, N.Y. — A new pollinator garden has opened at the Catskills Visitor Center, featuring an array of native plants to support local pollinators and birds, according to an announcement.
The garden, made possible through the support of board member Jane Simmons, features over 40 native plant species, including flowering perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees, the announcement said. The plants will serve as an educational resource as well, in addition to enhancing local biodiversity and supporting pollinators.
The announcement said gardens like these are important to the ecosystem of the Catskill Mountains, as pollinators face threats from habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and more.
The garden is open year-round. The center is set to host several programs in the spring focused on native plants, the role of pollinators, and practical ways to support local biodiversity, encouraging visitors to participate and learn.
The Catskills Visitor Center is located at 5096 Route 28. For more information, visit catskillsvisitorcenter.org.
