Cakes as works of art. Confectioner Lucie is also collecting awards for her products all over the world

Cakes don’t always have to be oval or square in shape. Artistic confectioner Lucie Charvátová fulfills even the craziest cake wishes of her customers. He specializes in 3D cakes, worked out to the smallest detail and is not afraid of any challenge. He can bake a cake in the shape of a horse, a hippopotamus, a horror cake, a movie cake, a children’s cake or a portrait cake. Lucie has several prestigious confectionary awards to her credit, and her sweet creations also impressed the jury at world competitions.

The exceptional confectioner Lucie Charvátová lives with her husband, small son and two dogs near Borovan in České Budějovice in an old mill, which they are gradually renovating with their own help. Lucie was athletically gifted in her youth and there was no indication of her current focus.

“In my youth I competed on mountain bikes, in-line skates, short track, and at twenty-five I fulfilled my childhood dream and competed on mountain bikes and downhill. I originally studied promotional design, but after school I couldn’t find a job. For a while I worked in a zoo with poisonous snakes and crocodiles, and paradoxically, that’s when they started showing a show on TV with cakes from America. Baking caught my heart at that moment and I suspected that this field would be the right one for me. I went back to school and trained as a confectioner, at the same time gaining practice and experience in confectioneries and hotels,” Lucie Charvátová, who founded her own company six years ago, described her beginnings Crazy Cakes.

But Lucia was never attracted to ordinary wreaths and pinwheels. She wanted to create atypical and non-traditional cakes that she saw on TV. He works for dozens of hours on more complex cakes and uses only high-quality ingredients for their production. “My cakes are not based on ordinary buttercream, nor do I put any substitutes or stabilizers in them. I still make the honest old pastry, which I try to modernize with light creams based on cream. I’m happy that I can offer something different to people, and that’s what I enjoy about it,” said Lucie.

She has no limits for her cakes, size or theme doesn’t matter. “I don’t just make sexist cakes like breasts, I find it humiliating. I also don’t like to create technical things because I have trouble focusing on the details of how exactly it should look. For example, for a car, the curves are given. On the contrary, it is a bit more relaxed with the animal. I then make more complex things, such as faces or figurines of the birthday boy, according to the photos,” described the artistic confectioner, who tries to constantly push the boundaries in her field and try new techniques.

In addition to domestic competitions, non-traditional cakes from Lucia also score points abroad. Last year, she achieved her biggest goal. “The biggest success for me came last November, when I flew to Birmingham, England at the last minute for the Cake International competition. It is one of the most prestigious cake competitions in the world, where up to two thousand people apply in different categories. I won in the horror category with a cake I call baba,” explained Lucie Charvátová, who displayed the winning chocolate cake in a showcase at home. If time permits, she would like to participate in the prestigious international competition this year as well.

Anyone interested in a non-traditional cake from Lucie Charvátová must place an order in time. The minimum is one month in advance, but it depends on the time of year. Cakes for the summer need to be ordered now, because the demand is high. The most classic cake with a figure made of edible matter and decorations costs on average three to three and a half thousand crowns. Lucie does not make the figurines themselves to order due to the time requirement. But he organizes courses where he teaches interested parties how to make them.
