The future of Cyril Hanouna’s broadcasts on C8 is still not fixed. The channel could lose its TNT frequency on February 28.

MEDIA – Last attempt to recover the antenna. The chain C8house of the animator Cyril Hanounatried everything for everything against the Council of State this Friday, November 15, to contest the probable shutdown of its TNT frequency at the end of February. In July, theArcom had unveiled a preselection channels chosen for the reallocation of 15 TV frequencies in 2025, and C8 and NRJ12 were not among them, despite their request for renewal.

Even if the selection of the audiovisual policeman is officially not final, several channels not selected – C8, NRJ12 and Le Média – have contacted the Council of State to contest. “If we are not chosen, we are excluded” and already “the consequences are more than significant for C8 »argued the channel’s lawyer, Me Emmanuel Piwnica, at the hearing this Friday.

According to the chains’ lawyers, the final decision of theArcom scheduled for early December would in any case be too late, with their lease expiring at the end of February. They compared the situation to a “Sword of Damocles” while waiting for the final word from Arcom, as reported by journalists present on site.

The public rapporteur of the Council of State considered that it was too early for such an appeal. The highest administrative court must render its decision in the coming week. If the conclusions of the public rapporteur are followed, the body will reject C8’s request, considering that it is not admissible since it arrives before the final decision of Arcom.

“The case law is firmly established” for around thirty years, justified the public rapporteur, who says the law.

A petition for the maintenance of C8

In anticipation of the hearing at the Council of State, C8 launched a petition at the end of last week inviting “defend the 1st TNT channel and save jobs”. To date, it has almost reached 700,000 signatures. The petition argues that if the channel is forced to stop broadcasting from February 28, 2025, 400 people would be threatened with losing their jobs.

The authors also defend “a unique vision of audiovisual”. They highlight the audiences for C8’s flagship shows, including Don’t Touch My Post And Facing Hanounawhich show, according to them, “how much viewers are attached to the tone and diversity of the channel”.

Owned by the Canal+ group, in the hands of ultra-conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, C8 will be able to subsequently attack the final selection of the audiovisual regulator. The battle is therefore not entirely lost for the “Baba” channel, but his fans must still prepare for Arcom to touch their station.
