The upcoming shows will mark his first time performing in Scotland’s capital for 46 years and Liverpool for 45 years.

The Piano Man singer sent fans over the moon after extending his time in the UK but his fans soon came crashing back down to earth after spotting the prices.

His loyal fans were left heartbroken after attempting to buy tickets for the arena shows only to find them ‘outrageously’ expensive.

Billy Joel lovers took to social media to vent their frustrations, saying: ‘Just went to buy my mum Billy Joel tickets for Christmas and he wants £185 for second tier at Anfield with a restricted view. It’s becoming a joke!’; How is £197 for an obstructed view justifiable? Beyond my budget.’

While a third fan had mixed emotions after finding out how much they would have to shell out to see the Uptown Girl performer.

They wrote: ‘Yay – we’re in for ⁦Billy Joel !! Outrageous prices including fees’; Why have we normalised concert tickets of £150 for standing at the back of a pitch? Live music is a privilege for people now and not accessible for most people’.

One disappointed fan branded the pricing as ‘disgraceful’.

This is just the latest incident in the Ticketmaster dynamic pricing saga which has seen fans rage against expensive tickets for gigs including the Oasis reunion tour and Coldplay’s latest series of concerts.

Ticketmaster bosses came under fire for their ‘dynamic pricing’ system left fans spending hundred of pounds on Oasis tickets

An estimated 14million Oasis fans spent ‘Supersonic Saturday’ last month desperately battling it out to get their hands on tickets to see brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher reunite on stage for a mammoth tour around the UK and Ireland next year.

But eager fans were left raging after the price of standing tickets went up from £150 face value to £355 within hours due to the huge demand.

Fans of Coldplay were left fuming after losing out to £53 tickets within seconds of them going on sale.

One person fumed at Ticketmaster, the band’s chosen distribution outlet, saying: ‘I had 900 people ahead of me in the queue, and when I finally got through, the only ticket available was £192. What a joke! What happened to the £53 tickets?’.

But while true fans lost out, ticket touts managed to bag the cheaper tickets earlier and immediately began  listing them for resale at eye-watering prices of more than £1000 each.

Bruce Springsteen, known for his epic three-hour sets, has been matter-of-fact about the most expensive tickets sold for his tour, around £3,500 thanks to Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing, with The Boss maintaining that if he doesn’t sell them at that price, someone else a tout will.

Harry Styles fans claimed they would be unable to pay their rent after forking out £700 for a ticket to the star’s gigs in 2022.

One fan rushed through booking website Ticketmaster’s checkout process after seeing tickets advertised for £155 each.

But due price changes based on demand, she found herself stuck with a £700 bill and no way to pay her rent and says she’s now seeking a refund.

Back in February, Joel opened up about why it took him nearly two decades to release his new single, Turn the Lights Back On.

Speaking with his co-writer Freddy Wexler on Audacy Check In, he said: ‘It was fun. Music is fun.

‘Rock n’ roll was fun. It was all about having fun — and I kind of lost that and I turned the lights off because it wasn’t fun anymore.’

Joel explained that despite others begging for him to get back in the studio, he ‘always resisted it’.

He added: ‘I studiously avoided it because songwriting had become painful. I have this high bar.

‘I said to myself, ‘If I don’t reach that bar, I beat myself up and I punched myself and I hate myself.’ So, I stopped doing it because I got tired of feeling like that.’

Over the years Joel has bagged 33 Top 40 hits – all of which he wrote himself.

He has received six Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Grammy Legend Award.
