Without concealment or qualms, Arturo Pérez-Reverte has called Claudia Sheinbaum “imbeciles and scoundrels” and Andrés Manuel López Obradorfuture president of Mexico and current president, respectively, after they revealed the reasons why They have not invited King Felipe VI upon taking office.
“I had certain doubts about whether López Obrador and Sheinbaum were imbeciles, opportunists, demagogues, scoundrels or all four things at the same time. “This statement clarifies everything for me,” the writer tweeted this Wednesday.
Along with its publication appears the document issued by the Sheinbaum presidency in which they explain what happened to Spain for not having invited the monarch, a fact that the Government considered “unacceptable” and caused Pedro Sanchez did not decide to attend the appointment either.
As the statement clarifies, this is because our country did not respond to a letter that López Obrador sent on March 1, 2019 in which they asked him to express “in a public and official manner the recognition of the grievances caused” by the Spanish conquest between 1519 and 1521. In this way, they wanted to achieve a “closer, more fluid and more fraternal coexistence.”
“This letter did not receive any direct response.as would have corresponded to the best diplomatic practice”, they criticized and also disgraced the fact that part of that letter was leaked to the media.
“Recognition of indigenous peoples is essential to continue advancing in the transformation of our public life,” added Claudia Sheinbaum’s team, who soon hopes to find “new avenues of understanding with Spain.”
