Anna Camp joins Scream 7 as Mason Gooding returns for more

There has been a lot of casting news for Scream 7 in recent weeks as the film is gearing up for production next year and we now have more new additions to the ensemble, this time though it is both a newcomer and legacy cast member as Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect trilogy) has joined the film while Mason Gooding is set to reprise his Scream and Scream VI role.

There is no word on Camp’s character as details are being kept under wraps, but Gooding entered the Scream franchise in 2022’s fifth installment as Chad Meeks-Martin, the nephew of original Scream character Randy Meeks and twin brother to Jasmin Savoy-Brown’s Mindy. He is one of the targets of the new Ghostface attacks in both films and, unlike her sister who followed in her uncle’s footsteps as a movie and horror cinephile, Chad is a star athlete but is very devoted to protecting his friends and family from the Ghostface killers.

Gooding’s inclusion is the first of the ‘requels’ castings to return for the new film after several issues changed the initial plans for Scream 7 following the success of Scream VI, not least of which included Melissa Barrera’s firing and Jenna Ortega dropping out over apparent schedule conflicts with Wednesday. Given how none of the new cast had joined the film, there was speculation Scream 7 would retcon the events of Scream and Scream VI for a new timeline, much like how several of the later Halloween films have done. With Gooding’s return, it seems retconning is not the approach the filmmakers are taking.

Gooding joins a cast that includes franchise regulars Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox with Patrick Dempsey in talks to reprise his role from Scream 3. The seventh film will feature newcomers Isabel May, who is said to be playing Sidney Prescott’s daughter, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace and Sam Rechner.

Kevin Williamson will direct Scream 7 from a script by Guy Busick. Williamson is best known for penning most of the Scream films, which he helped build alongside the iconic filmmaker Wes Craven. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Paul Neinstein will produce for Project X Entertainment.

Scream 7 will be released in theaters worldwide via Paramount Pictures on February 27, 2026.
