ALÈS The sub-prefecture orders the closure of the Abbey car park, against municipal wishes

The sub-prefecture having not received a response to its request on the solidity of the parking lot of the Abbey halls, the sub-prefect of Alès, Émile Soumbo, signed this Tuesday the closure of the parking lot, of which only the 3rd basement was open. Contacted, the municipality did not respond.

It is by relying on the expert services of the SDIS (departmental fire and rescue service) that the sub-prefect of Alès, Émile Soumbo, decided, this Tuesday, the temporary administrative closure of the parking lot of the Abbey as a whole. “By mail dated November 13, 2023, writes the sub-prefect, I asked you to produce a report from an approved body on the solidity of the Abbey halls car park, which should have been carried out before the opening of R-3 of this car park to the public.”

“In the absence of this mandatory document, I inform you that I am forced to issue the order for the temporary closure of this establishment open to the public.” Émile Soumbo proposes to the mayor of Alès, as a solution, to “resubmit the amending building permit that you had withdrawn on November 2, 2023. In addition, it is now up to you to seek the opinion of an approved body (control office) concerning the overall state of the structures of the halls and the park parking.” The sub-prefect of Alès finally indicates that before reopening, the municipality will have to provide “the regulatory inspection report after works”.

Contacted, the municipality did not respond, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., to our request for reaction.
