A menu fit for a king! Now members of the public can sample ‘estate-to-table’ dining experience at Balmoral for £250 – and it includes smoked salmon and venison

With smoked salmon, venison loin and a selection of cheeses, it is a feast fit for a King.

Now members of the public are being given the chance to enjoy an ‘exceptional estate-to-table dining experience’ in King Charles‘s retreat at Balmoral.

For £250 a head, visitors can tuck into seven courses including game terrine, herb-crusted venison loin and treacle tart rustled up by chefs at the royal estate in Aberdeenshire.

Bookings for the ‘intimate and unique’ Evening at Balmoral events will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and are expected to be snapped up.

Only 70 spaces will be available as each night will be limited to 10 guests.

When the royals opened the doors to the castle for tours during the summer, demand was so high that the Balmoral website crashed and the slots were fully booked within hours.

Yesterday the estate announced that winter tours, which will only be open to over-15s and will include live music and wine, will be hosted on seven Friday nights in November and December.

The ingredients have all been sourced locally and the menu has been inspired by the magnificent rooms inside the castle.

The blurb for the events stated: ‘Join us for a special ‘Evening at Balmoral’ this winter.

‘On arrival you will be greeted by a traditional piper before experiencing an exclusive Castle Interior Tour.

‘Following the tour you can then enjoy a specially curated seven course fine dining experience, inspired by the seven rooms you visit on the Castle Interior Tour.

‘The meal will be complimented with paired wines and live music, served in our recently redesigned restaurant, creating a truly memorable experience.’

It went on: ‘This intimate and unique experience is limited to ten guests per tour, with tours starting at 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. on each date,’ added Balmoral

‘To book, please e-mail [email protected] with your preferred date, the number of tickets you wish to book for and contact telephone number.

‘Tickets cost £250 per person and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.’

Balmoral’s grand interior was opened to the public for the first time in July, giving visitors the chance to wander through rooms used by the Royal family over the generations.

The guided tour also included details of the history of the estate, which was bought by Queen Victoria and was where the late Queen Elizabeth spent her last days.

The first tranche of tickets sold out within hours and demand was so high that another 300 had to be released.

The estate said: ‘You will learn about the origins of the Castle and how it has been loved by generations of the Royal family. Travel through time from the purchase of the Balmoral by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, through to present day, where you can see how rooms within the Castle are used today by their Majesty’s The King and Queen and other members of the Royal Family.

‘You will see why Balmoral is such a special place – the much loved and celebrated Highland home of the Royal Family.’

But members of the public who miss out on the evening tour tickets or baulk at paying £250 a head will still be able to enjoy a visit to the castle.

The grounds will be open to visitors for free over the winter season.
