The snowfall do not weaken Occitania. They even tend to intensify in recent hours. This Thursday, January 19, 2023, Meteo France placed seven departments on alert orange snow-ice : Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Aveyron, Tarn, Aude, Hérault and Pyrénées-Orientales. Here’s what to expect in the coming hours in the Tarn.
A new snowy episode
Already well affected by snowfall on Wednesday (up to 10 centimeters at 300 meters above sea level and a few centimeters on the plain), the Tarn department is preparing to experience a new snowy episode this Thursday.
While calm has returned this morning, “a minimum will deepen over the new Aquitaine at the end of the afternoon with a gentle pulse which will come into contact with the cold air. As we progress here, the snow should make its appearance all the way to the plains once again,” explains the very well-informed Tarn Météo Facebook page.
Up to 20 centimeters on heights above 500 meters
According to Météo France forecasts, snowfall should return from 6:00 p.m. “They should last between 3 and 4 hours depending on the sector”, continues Tarn Météo, adding that we could find 7 to 10 cm of snow on the plain, 12 to 15 cm above 300 meters and 15 to 20 cm “on the heights above 500m which are already very snowy”.
“The Monts de Lacaune or the Montagne Noire could cumulatively (since Monday) reach 50 to 60cm! »
Caution is obviously required on the Tarn network in the coming hours. “This snow could be heavy and sticky and could damage some power lines. Vigilance must continue until at least the night.
