A group of conservative Albanian deputies set fire to their seats in front of Parliament

Deputies of the Democratic Party (DP), the conservative opposition of Albaniathis Monday they took their seats outside Parliament and set them on fire in protest of the sentence to one year in prison one of its members for falsifying evidence against the socialist Government. Thus, the DP considers that its deputy was sentenced in a political trial and has announced that it is breaking relations with the Government led by Edi Rama.

It was at the beginning of this Monday’s plenary session when the president of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, has announced the end of the mandate of the convicted deputy, Ervin Salianji, who entered prison last Friday.

Immediately, conservative deputies blocked access to the speakers’ gallery. Then, They have torn off their seats and taken them outside the buildingwhere they have been doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Specifically, Salianji was found guilty of manipulate a recording to make believe that the brother of the former Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj, was involved in drug trafficking.

“Edi Rama has destroyed Parliament. We are not withdrawing from the battle, they will confront us whenever they try to silence the opposition,” the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazmend Bardhi, told the media.
