A brutal night in the Octagon. Kalashnik scored a KO in Birmingham, but other Czechs fell

The Octagon’s third stop in the British Isles was marked by several interesting fights, in which a trio of Czech wrestlers also showed up. In Birmingham’s Resort World Arena, Andrej Kalashnik, who flashed a top-class knockout in less than a minute, stormed. However, his compatriots Daniel Škvor and Jakub Dohnal did not achieve victory and fell in the 2nd round. The highlight of the 56th tournament was the flyweight title battle, from which the home team Sam Creasey took home the championship belt.

The native of Brno with the nickname AK47 entered the cage in Birmingham after defeats with experienced fighters Louis Glismann and Niklas Stolz, but he resolutely rejected the third loss in a row under the banner of the yellow and black organization. In addition, he knocked out home Liam Etebar after only 43 seconds of the fight.

Trouble with the scale and water at the hotel. Octagon faces another tough test in Britain

A left hook that could easily be taught at martial arts colleges. “Whether I win or lose, I always want to throw a party. It was a big evening for me, I wrestled for the first time in England,” said an enthusiastic Kalashnik. And what will happen next with the Czech fighter? “Next time I would like to wrestle at home in Brno,” he added towards the promoters.

His more experienced compatriot Daniel Škvor didn’t have so many reasons to be happy. In the British Isles, he faced a huge challenge in the form of the Irish killer Will Fleury, who very quickly earned the label of fear of the light heavyweight division of the Octagon. And he lived up to his reputation at the Saturday gala.

Škvor was only able to defend himself from the takedown for a few seconds, but then the Irish fighter took over and on the ground already directed the course of the opening round as needed. The Czech acquisition started the second five-minute period fairly decently, but Fleury immediately tightened the famous arm-triangle and it was all over.

Despite another sovereign victory, Škvor’s conqueror was slightly embarrassed. “I’m not at all proud of my performance today,” admitted Fleury. “I hurt my thumb two weeks ago, but I didn’t give up and beat the number five in our division with one hand. That’s not bad. When I recover and I’m 100 percent, I want the best opponent in Frankfurt,” he dreamed of the October duel at the football stadium.

Bigger than ever. How Oktagon rose from Královka to football stadiums

Another Brno representative on the card, Jakub Dohnal, was not successful either, as he was unable to get into the match in the cage at all. After last year’s defeat with the legendary Ivan Buchinger, this time he was not enough for the Octagon newcomer James Hendin.

The skilled Brit knocked Dohnal down very quickly, where he dominated the whole time. In the second round, the Czech fighter started to bleed above his eyebrow and it was clear that this was going to be very difficult to save. In addition, Hendin continued to attack, stepped on the gas even more and scored a definitive TKO 17 seconds before the siren.

The sad gala evening for Czech and Slovak fans was underlined by the defeats of two Slovaks on Saturday’s card. Daniel Hromek already received a KO from the British wrestler Ammari Diedrick in the first round, and the young Tomáš Cigánik was not enough for the winner of last year’s Octagon Challenge England vs. Ireland by George Staines.

On the contrary, the Irish provocateur Shem Rock returned to the scene in style, and he handled the local Stefano Catacoli without much difficulty. His rear naked choke in the first round only confirmed that this early termination express will be very difficult to stop in the Octagon.

“I’m the biggest MMA star in Britain right now, excluding UFC fighters,” the confident Irishman declared. And he didn’t forget the postponed fight with Jaroslav Pokorný, whom he allegedly challenged to the cage for the last time. Will we see you at Eden Football Stadium in June?

Another domestic fighter, Akonne Wanliss, also scored a convincing win, knocking out Sweden’s Sahil Siraj in the Tipsport Gamechanger pyramid after only 48 seconds of the match. And the highlight of the evening belonged to Sam Creasey, who defeated Welshman Aaron Aby on points to win the Octagon flyweight championship belt.

The next stop of the yellow and black organization will be the sold-out Festhalle in Frankfurt in two weeks, where the experienced Czech Miroslav Brož will perform in the main match. And then it will be the turn of the aforementioned Eden with a big rematch of Vémola vs. Végh.
