39-year-old man dies after choking on a flag during a birthday

The Salamanca town of Peñaranda de Bracamonte is in mourning after the tragic death of Ismael Dosuna Reya 39-year-old neighbor and committed costalero of the Virgin of Hope Brotherhoodwho lost his life on Saturday, November 23, after choking in a bar on Carmen Street while celebrating a birthday with friends and colleagues from the costaleros gang.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m., when Ismael accidentally choked with a flag. Despite the efforts of those present, who tried to help him by applying the Heimlich maneuverand the rapid intervention of the emergency services, his life was not saved. A loved and committed neighbor

It has been a very important loss, totally unexpected and fortuitous. He was a person committed to the brotherhood and to the group of costaleros,” the brotherhood said to the Salamanca Gazette.

The Mayor of Peñaranda, Carmen Ávilahas also publicly expressed his deep regret for what happened: “It is a tragedy, an unexpected event, a shame. For its part, the Local Police, who arrived as quickly as they could at the scene, also lamented the loss: “Despite the efforts of our agents and health personnel, a young man from the town died. We sent our condolences to family and friends in these difficult times,” they wrote on their social networks.
