Kevin Smith recently shared his thoughts on the end of his pal Ben Affleck’s relationship with Jennifer Lopez.
Describing himself humorously as Affleck’s friend with “loose lips,” Smith reflected on the breakup during a conversation with People, which was published on Wednesday, October 2.
The Jay and Silent Bob actor expressed his admiration for both Affleck, 52, and Lopez, 55, noting that they are “wonderful” individuals. “If they’re not going forward, that breaks my heart and stuff, but I’ve always adored him,” Smith, 54, shared to the outlet.

When asked directly about the breakup, Smith revealed that his wife encouraged him to reach out to his friend. However, he said he felt that doing so might come off as threatening. “He’d probably think, ‘Oh my God, it’s Kevin Smith with his loose lips,'” he joked, referring to himself as Affleck’s “least trustworthy friend on the planet.”
Despite not having spoken to Affleck in some time, Smith made it clear that their friendship remains strong. “I’m sure I’ll run into him again,” he said, hinting at their long history of collaboration. Having worked with The Town actor multiple times over the years, Smith considers him to be “one of my favorite people on the planet.”
Following months of speculation, Bennifer officially parted ways when Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, on the second anniversary of their wedding, nonetheless. Their relationship has been what some consider a rollercoaster ride, dating back to their initial romance in the early 2000s. After moving on with other relationships, the couple rekindled their love in 2021, leading to a second chance at love that fans had long hoped for. Their marriage, celebrated with two lavish ceremonies, had seemed like a fairy tale, making the recent breakup all the more surprising for fans and friends alike.
