I asked my seven-year-old daughter to label her own school uniform – the results weren’t what I expected

A mother has caused a storm on social media after sharing her daughter’s attempt at labelling her school uniform.

Sallay Kamara, 38, from the UK, had purchased her seven-year-old daughter a brand-new collection of white shirts as part of her school uniform.

But when she asked her daughter Zabella to label her brand-new white shirts with her name, she took the request literally.

The school child took to her shirts with a black marker pen and signed her name across the collar along with her initials.

The clip caused a storm on TikTok and gained over 30,000 views, and while Sallay classed it as a ‘lesson learned’, viewers found light in the situation, with one branding it ‘hilarious’.

Taking to the platform Sallay wrote: ‘See what my daughter did to her new school uniform.’

But while she might have to fork out and buy Zabella a new collection of shirts for school, viewers found light in the situation.

Some viewers said that, on the plus side, the labels make it unlikely for the Zabella’s shirts to get stolen.

One wrote: ‘I mean credit where credit is due. At least it won’t get lost at school’. A second added: ‘This is hilarious. Sorry mum.’

‘In her defence, she told her to put her name on the uniform, but never specified where.’

‘Sorry mum, but not going to lie, it looks so cool, she’s going to be a fashion icon,’ another wrote.

A fourth agreed, adding: ‘A fashion designer will see this and make a new ready-to-wear line with their brand.’

A fifth said: ‘One thing I have learned [is to be] very specific with children, I feel your pain’.

According to a recent survey by M&S, a staggering 41 per cent of parents find themselves buying new pieces of school uniform not once, but twice a year.

Shoes, skirts or trousers, and shirts are the most commonly replaced items, with 57 per cent of parents citing wear and tear as the main culprit.

For girls in particular, one constant frustration is dealing with tights that snag, rip, or ladder, often leading to dozens of pairs being thrown away each year.

However, one Florida mother may have found the perfect solution to this age-old problem.

Last month, Tsagana, a mother and content creator from the US,  posted a video to her Instagram account, @tsagana_24, revealing a simple trick to keep tights in pristine condition throughout the school year.

Viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the clip, and one branded it 'hilarious'

The method, which she learned at her daughter’s dance class, has already earned her praise from hundreds of parents online.

Tsagana wrote: ‘Moms of girls, this is especially important before school, and this way you will save a lot of money.’

In the video, she demonstrated how soaking tights in cold water, and then freezing them overnight, can strengthen the material, making them ‘three times’ more durable.

Her step-by-step process involves soaking the tights in a bowl of cold water, placing them back in their packaging, then freezing them for 24 hours.

The following day, she rinses the tights to thaw them out, then air-dries them.

In her video, Tsagana stretches the material to show how much stronger it becomes, saying: ‘It’s fantastic! It becomes three times stronger!!!’

The mother’s hack has resonated with parents, prompting many to express their gratitude in the comments.

One person said, ‘Girl you just saved me a lot of money.’

A second wrote, ‘This would have been useful information in high school! You know how many times I got in trouble for having ripped tights! And how many I had to buy!’

One mother added: ‘This would have saved my Mom thousands of dollars! I’m going to do it to my 7-year-old’s tights.’

Another said: ‘My grandmother and mother did this for years. It was an honor to get picked to go pull stockings from the freezer for grandma.’

A second confirmed: ‘One person I did this for dance class in the 80s! Saved the expensive tights!!’

However, some weren’t convinced by the hack, with one person writing: ‘Doesn’t work! This myth has been around for ages.

‘I detest wearing hosiery but did for years. Tried it out of desperation after so many times of poking holes in them even at first use. Didn’t work.’
