The manga “Instinct” co-written by Inoxtag is somewhat inspired by the YouTuber’s life.

BOOK – The YouTuber Inoxtag is embarking on a new project that is very different from what he is used to doing. Passionate about Japanese manga and animationthe 22-year-old videographer is now the co-author of a shonen, that is to say a manga aimed at adolescent boys (even if everyone can read it). This comicco-published by Michel Lafon and Webedia Creators editions, is entitled Instinct and volume I appears this Thursday, November 21.

Inoxtag, whose real name is Inès Benazzouz, is not the only one to have worked on this manga. He is accompanied on the screenplay by Basile Monnot, director of documentary Kaizen which retraces the ascent of Everest by the YouTuber. We also find Charles Compain, co-author but above all illustrator of Instinct. Despite the work by six hands, the presence of the name Inoxtag on the cover is not insignificant.

The story follows that of Haki, a 19-year-old young man who possesses supernatural power. He can see the aura and intentions of the people around him. But this faculty is a burden for the young man since the desires he perceives are often dark and unhealthy. When he learns that he is infected by an incurable virus called “noctus”, Haki meets Luna, a mysterious young woman who offers him a glimmer of hope.

The superpower of Inoxtag

The power of Haki was not chosen by chance by the authors. At the end of the book, a double page dedicated to Inoxtag explains the genesis of the project. At the same time, we discover the origin of the main character’s gift. “I’m super sensitive to other people’s energies. And since I’m in a job where I meet a lot of people, I see an aura around people and I’m generally able to sense their intentions.”explains the young YouTuber.

And there are other small references to Inoxtag in the manga. For example, at the very beginning of the story, a man who is infected by the noctus is fired by his company. He then wonders what he is going to do: “Maybe I can take a trip around the world?” Go to Japan? I might try to climb Everest… Maybe adopt a dog? ». All these thoughts echo the life of the YouTuber. But they relate more to winks aimed at its community than to key elements of the plot.

Beyond the links to Inoxtag, this comic strip also stands out thanks to the drawings of Charles Compain who signed his first publication. Already noted by the authors of Yu-Gi-Oh! And Kuroko’s Basket (two very popular mangas) thanks to competitions, he was able to benefit throughout the design of the manga from the expertise of Tony Valente, the first French mangaka to have been published in Japan. And this is seen in particular through the settings and the emotions of the characters drawn on the boards.

Available in bookstores, volume I lays the foundations of a classic shonen story, that of a young boy with a more or less ordinary life, destined for an extraordinary destiny. “I hope you like volume I and I await your feedback in the hope of being able to write volume II…”we can read in the description of the announcement video for his manga. If the success ofInstinct is there, the YouTuber wants to be able to edit the rest and offer Haki other adventures.
