He is in a very sweet moment. She succeeds as a model and jewelry designer and warms up in the pits to also launch herself as a fashion designer. He has found the balance between the professional and the personal. With a special shine in her eyes, she tells us excitedly.
-Rocío, a couple of years ago you were our cover and you surprised us with the launch of your jewelry brand, how has everything evolved since then?
-I have grown a lot as a businesswoman. Now, I handle situations with more calm and perspective, prioritizing what is important, even though I continue to face new challenges daily. Experience is the best teacher.
-Last year, you designed your first fashion collection, was it the definitive step to jump into ready-to-wear?
-Yes, it is something that I want to professionalize more. For now, I’m exploring and taking baby steps, waiting for the right moment to dive in fully.
-What would that first line be like?
-I want my creations to adapt to all types of women and bodies. Unique pieces, for special occasions, that last as wardrobe staples.
-The dress that you designed for Aruca Fernández-Vega for the wedding of her son, Nacho Aragón, has made her one of the most elegant godmothers and her look was viral, how was the experience?
-It was a pleasure to design for her, she completely trusted me and it is something that I will always be grateful for. I hope this is just the beginning of many similar projects.
-You say that inspiration comes from everything you see and know, but is your own style also one of your creative sources?
-Totally, although my style has changed, and continues to do so. Before I didn’t experiment as much with prints and colors, but now I’m very attracted to it.
-What will we find soon among your new jewelry?
-I am working on a capsule collection that is higher than the previous ones. My goal is to stay true to my line and make sure that the production is ethical, without following the rhythm of the seasons.
-Jewellery has been gaining ground as a star accessory for everyday life, why do you think this is due?
-I think it is because of the stories that many jewels hold: inheritances, gifts, commitments… In addition, they enhance any look and complete it.
-Do you keep any with special sentimental value, that gives you ‘luck’ and that you take to castings and important appointments?
-A rosary from my mother, a stone from my great-aunt and a ring from my grandmother.
-You have been in modeling for almost ten years now, what fascinates you about this profession that you can’t get enough of?
-It makes me feel alive. Traveling constantly, meeting new people and discovering places fulfills me, although sometimes I wish I had a more stable routine. This profession is demanding, but it has given me unique experiences and has taught me a lot, since I am very observant.
-With your parents and brother being journalists, have you ever been tempted by the world of communication?
-I am passionate about the world of communication. I watch little television, because I don’t have time, but I always carry the radio with me. It is a medium that accompanies me wherever I go, informs me and nourishes me.
-What do you do to look radiant in front of and behind the cameras?
-Sleeping is what feels best to me. But it’s a privilege I don’t have that often. The rest is attitude. It is reflected outside.
“Designing Aruca Fernández-Vega’s bridesmaid dress for her son, Nacho Aragón’s, wedding was a real pleasure. “She completely trusted me, and I will always be grateful.”
-They say that getting ready is a matter of respect and deference to others, do you share that?
-I dress up because I like it, but also out of respect for the occasion.
-Travel around the world, photo shoots, making sure your brand grows… Do you make time for yourself and your loved ones?
-Yes, even if it’s just a day or an afternoon. I maintain constant contact with my family and friends. When I am in Spain, I organize group activities so that everyone can enjoy them to the fullest.
-If you had not dedicated yourself to this industry, what would you have chosen?
-I’m good at decorating, maybe I would go that route.
-You are in love with New York, but you return to Seville whenever you can, where do you feel most at home?
-Right now, my home is New York, where I have my house and my routine. But Seville and Madrid are my roots and where my family is.
-You are very close to your parents and especially to your brother, are you lucky enough to have your best friend in him? How is your relationship?
-We have a very special bond. I have absolute admiration for him. It’s my everything, my life. We are very similar in many things, we know each other perfectly and we share the same humor.
-And with your parents, are you also friends or do you act more as ‘parents’?
-They are my parents, but I have a lot of trust in them and I know that I can always count on their support.
-What would you say is the most valuable advice you have been given and why?
-They have taught me values such as humility, effort, determination and knowing how to be. It has been instilled in me that you should always treat everyone with respect, no matter the context.
