Inside the Bet Travis Kelce Lost to Teammate Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs teammates Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have brotherly love between them — but this doesn’t mean they can’t troll each other every now and then.

Following the Chiefs’ 17-10 victory against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, September 29, NFL on CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz revealed that the teammates placed a bet the day prior.

Kelce, 34 – who played football at University of Cincinnati — and Mahomes, 29 — who played at Texas Tech — got together on Saturday, September 28, to watch their respective alma maters take each other on, and they made a bet in the process.

Nantz revealed the details of the bet during the NFL on CBS broadcast.

“They were all excited about going back Saturday evening and watching their two alma maters square off, Texas Tech and Cincinnati,” Nantz said, “which ended up being an unbelievable game, won by Texas Tech, 44-41. The Bearcats missed a 50-yard field goal — last play the game. Of course, they had a little side wager.”

According to Nance, if Cincinnati won, Mahomes would have had to wear a Cincinnati jersey and the head of its mascot to his next team press conference. If Texas Tech won, Kelce would have had to wear a Red Raiders jersey and a mascot head during the following episode of his podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce.

Travis made good on his word, as he appeared on the latest episode of the podcast — which dropped Wednesday, October 2 — in full costume. “The Texas Tech Red Raiders beat up on our Cincinnati Bearcats over the weekend, and me and Pat had a little fun, little wager that we came up with,” said Travis in the episode.
