Gun Manufacturer Sells MAGA-Themed Version of Assault Rifle That Shot Trump

A MAGA-themed version of the assault rifle used in Donald Trump’s assassination attempt on July 13 at a rally in Pennsylvania is now for sale.

A website lists the weapon, titled “The MAGA Patriot AR 15,” as an “extremely limited, custom-designed, commemorative AR-15 designed to ‘Trump’ every other rifle available.”

An AR-15 was used by Thomas Matthew Crooks to shoot the former president, grazing his ear and killing one crowd member.

According to a video on the website, the rifle appears to have Trump’s name engraved on it, along with the slogan “Make America Great Again.”

The website states that behind the initiative is Caleb Lee, the founder of a shooting training center and “boutique gun manufacturing firm” in Alabama. Newsweek has attempted to reach Lee via phone and email to confirm his involvement, and will update this article if he responds.

The first 20 MAGA Patriot guns cost $2,997 each, and, according to the website, they come with six bonus gifts including 30-round Mapgul magazines, a “covert” rifle carrying soft case, a rifle training course at Caleb Lee’s firing school, and more.

It states that the gun is designed to “work reliably the moment you take it out of the box, to be as accurate as mechanically possible, and to continue to run without a single hiccup for thousands of rounds during multiple days of intense firing schedules.”

The description, attributed to Lee, continued “That way, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need your rifle to defend your life or the lives of the people you love—you’ll have absolute confidence in your carbine.”

There have been numerous items of merchandise based on Trump’s first assassination attempt including T-shirts, mugs, trading cards, and more.

The sale of the Trump-style rifle comes just after the Republican presidential candidate’s second alleged assassination attempt earlier this month. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, is accused of hiding in the bushes at Trump’s golf course with a rifle. Routh has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

As of March 2023, one in 20 Americans owned an AR-15, which was approximately 16 million people nationwide, according to research from The Washington Post and Ipsos.

During his presidency, Trump enacted a ban on bump stocks, which are a gun-modification that allow users to enable semi-automatic weapons to operate like fully automatic weapons, and they could be used for AR-15s. The federal ban on bump stocks was overturned in June.
