John Amos has died at the age of 84. The actor, known for his roles in series such as Good Times, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and roots, died last August 21but it was not until this Tuesday when his representative, Belinda Foster, announced it.
The interpreter died in Los Angeles from natural causesaccording to the magazineVariety. Likewise, his son, Kelly Christopher Amos, has offered a statement in the aforementioned medium to say goodbye to his father.
“It is with great regret that I inform you that my father has changed his life. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and He was loved all over the world. Many fans consider him their television father. He lived a good life. “His legacy will live on in his outstanding works on television and film as an actor,” he noted.
Kelly Christopher Amos has highlighted that his father loved working as an actor and has recalled several of his latest works, Suits LA, in which he made himself, and America’s Dada documentary about his career as an actor. “He was my father, my best friend and my hero. Thank you for your blessings and support at this time,” he concluded.
Born on December 27, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey, Amos’ career took off when he earned the role of meteorologist Gordon ‘Gordy’ Howard in The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970. From there, he took his comedic talent to good times from CBS, a spin-off of Maude and All in the Familyand played Father James Evans Sr. in 1974.
The Norman Lear Show made history as the first television show to follow a African American family with two parents. His role as a hard-working and devoted father figure resonated with the public. Amos also appeared on shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, About the Andersons, The West Wing, Two and a Half Men and The Ranch.
