Woman Proposed to in the ‘Worst’ Way Shares Why She Was Wrong in Viral Clip

A video online is proving that love will always conquer fear.

A clip posted to TikTok by Jade Gray (@jadeggray) has gone viral for capturing the moment Gray’s now-fiancé proposed to her in a New Zealand restaurant. The catch? Gray always thought she would be mortified by a public proposal. Since the video was posted, it has received over 2 million views and more than 270,000 likes on the platform.

“My whole life: ‘public proposal is my worst nightmare,'” Gray captioned the video. “I was wrong.”

In the video, Gray and her boyfriend sit against a dramatic mountainous backdrop at a restaurant in Queenstown. A waitress comes to the table and sets down the couple’s dessert. Gray’s plate reads: “Will you marry me?”

Immediately overcome, Gray watched in disbelief as her fiancé got down on one knee. Then, it wasn’t long before the restaurant erupted with applause. One man even opted to take extra photos for the couple from a nearby table.

“The guy next to y’all getting his phone out to snap more for you,” @_mirandabeeman noted.

“There was so many angles, the team really pulled through for our [memories],” Gray wrote in the comments—though she added that her forehead veins popped out during all the crying, “ruining” the stranger’s photos.

Despite Gray’s biggest fear being a public proposal, viewers gushed in the comments, finding the moment perfectly balanced.

“Your caption is so true. I feel the same, but this was public, but still so private if that makes sense?” @the.cool_mama wrote. “No one disturbed you guys, I love this.”

The unique setting of the restaurant also seems popular for lovebirds in general: “I sat at that exact table in that restaurant the morning my husband and I got eloped. Congrats!” @aannnniiee wrote.

Ultimately, whatever anxiety Gray may have had was quickly quelled by the sweetness of the moment—and the shine of the ring.

“He is perfection,” Gray wrote in the comments. “He knew the dream ring would override my anxiety for public proposal.”

The overwhelming consensus, from Gray and viewers alike, was one of adoration for the moment. Gray’s fiancé’s proposal was one for the books—and he knew it, too.

“His smile right before the plate was set down. I’m sobbing. Won’t settle until I am loved so loudly like this,” @tinysfckinwrld wrote.

“The thing is, you can still not like public proposals but when it’s the person you love most in the world asking, nothing and nobody else matters anyway,” @huskycanadian wrote.
