13 years later, the Generalitat resumes the works on the future Sanllehy station on L9 in Barcelona

The Department of Territory of the Generalitat of Catalonia has resumed the works of the future Sanllehy L9 station in Barcelona this Tuesday after 13 years of stops. With a budget of 12.8 million, the work that begins now will allow the excavation of the well to be completed and the gallery to be built which has to connect it with the tunnel of the central section of L9/L10.

The excavation of the Sanllehy line well stopped in 2011, leaving a station 42% completed and the well 66% excavated with 52 of the 78 planned meters. The execution of the works will require the closure and occupation of the plaza, where the future station will be located.

In the first months of the work, surface work will be carried out, such as the installation of sound-absorbing screens and preparatory tasks for the reopening and resumption of excavation of the well. Likewise, this September the auscultation campaign and prior inspections of buildings in the scope of the work were launched, such as prevention, surveillance and control measures of previous works.

Regarding the execution of other stations in the central section, work is underway on the future Mandri lobby and emergency exit –the 75 meter deep well is already excavated– and in the excavation of the Sarriá well –75% excavated. In addition, work has recently begun to create the interior structure of the Plaza de Maragall station.

In parallel, work is underway to place the tunnel’s intermediate slab, which will separate one direction from the other in the circulation of trains, between the area of ​​Plaza de Maragall and Lesseps. Action is also being taken in the area of ​​the Sagrera ‘macrowell’, to connect the current section of L9/L10 in service with the future section that will enter service.

The tunnel boring machine for the central section is currently stopped in Mandri, where the maintenance tasks and set-up necessary before facing the pending section to Lesseps.

The L9/L10, named the longest metro line in Europeis half operational, waiting for the central section to be finished excavating. The financial crisis caused the stoppage of excavations in sections such as Plaza Sanllehy, where the hole to insert the tunnel boring machine was visible until the redevelopment of the Gracia district area.
