Although his big budget space opera Rebel Moon failed to hit with critics and audiences, it doesn’t seem to have deterred Netflix from extending its partnership with Zack Snyder, with Deadline reporting that the filmmaker is currently developing a new feature project for the streaming giant.
While details are scarce, the film will be written by Snyder and his regular collaborator Kurt Johnstad, and is an action-thriller “set in a high-stakes world of life and death, watching as an elite LAPD unit is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiving collision of law and morality.”
The as-yet-untitled-project will mark the fifth feature for Netflix from Snyder’s The Stone Quarry production company after Army of the Dead, its spinoff Army of Thieves (directed by Matthias Schweighöfer), and the two Rebel Moon instalments. Netflix also debuted the Snyder-produced animated series Twilight of the Gods back in September.
The new project comes on the heels of recent comments by Snyder, who teased that he was looking to scale back the scope of his next project, stating: “I’m trying to do a small movie right now. I’m not going to say what it is, but I was, like, can I just do a movie without any visual effects in it for like five minutes? Then, I’ll go back to the insanity.”
