Later tonight: Future Hall of Famers meet in heavyweight title clash
Two dominant names from the sport’s 2010s will collide in Saturday’s main event at the highly prolific Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, USA. Jon Jones, the most dominant light heavyweight in MMA history and one of the most accomplished fighters of all time, will look to continue his pursuit as a heavyweight champ when he faces Stipe Miocic, who has put together the longest combined time as 265-pound champ in the promotion’s history.
The heydays of Jones and Miocic respectively are in the past. Miocic is returning after years outside of the cage, with his last victory dating back to 2020. Jones left the light heavyweight division after back-to-back rough showings and has been highly inactive since announcing his move to heavyweight in 2020, only making his debut back in early 2023 with a win against Ciryl Gane. However, due to the large following that both fighters have achieved for their impressive accomplishments through the years, Saturday’s main event is expected to be one of the biggest fights of the year.
Jones either has the chance to further cement his legacy as an all-time great with yet another win on Saturday, or Miocic will turn back the clock with an upset performance and become the first man to have a third title reign in the heavyweight division.
