The regulated gas rate that some three million homes have becomes more expensive by 9.5% until the end of the year

The around three million homes and small businesses subscribed to the regulated gas rate (last resort rate, TUR) will experience a average bill increase of 9.5% starting this Tuesday. For the around two thousand homes who are part of neighborhood communities that contracted the TUR 4 or neighborhood TURthe rise may reach 19.3% depending on your gas consumption, due to a new quarterly review that, although it is done with a cheaper raw material, incorporates seasonal gas that increases the total cost. To this increase we must add taxes, including 21% VATalready at the ordinary rate definitively since April.

Starting this Tuesday and until December 31, the fixed term of the three TUR categories that homes and small businesses can qualify for -TUR1, up to 5,000 kwh/year; TUR 2, from 5,000 to 15,000 kwh/year, and TUR 4 for neighborhood communities. will experience a dropas published this Saturday by the BOE with the quarterly update made by the Ministry of Ecological Transition when the price of gas in the wholesale markets experiences a variation of 2%. In this case, it is done downwards because the price of Brent has fallen (-1.45%) and the euro has appreciated against the dollar (+1.78%). However, now seasonal gas is incorporated which was not contemplated in the July review so, in the global calculation, the Ministry of Ecological Transition figures a 22.5% price increase.

As regards the three categories of TUR used in homes, between October and December, the fixed term for TUR1 will be 3.26 euros per client per month, compared to 3.85 euros between July and September; of 5.66 euros for the TUR2 compared to 7.12 euros in the quarter that is now ending, and of 13.37 euros compared to 14.92 in the case of the TUR3, for consumption between 15,000 and 50,000 kwh/year. The fixed term of the neighborhood TUR will decrease to 36.25 euros from 42.7 in this last quarter.

However, The variable term becomes more expensive between 5.22 and 14.68%. For TUR 1 it will be 5.11 cents/kilowatt compared to 4.39 until now; for TUR 2, 5.01 versus 4.09; that of TUR 3 goes from 3.82 to 4.62, and for TUR 4, it will be 4.62 euro cents per kilowatt compared to 3.82 between July and September.

In this way, for individual TUR customers the gas increase until December will be 9.5%; for those in TUR 2, 11.93% and for those in TUR3, 14.68%. The estimated increase in the variable term for the Neighborhood TUR grows between 14.7% and 19.3% depending on the gas consumption of groups which, as a novelty, also include groups of communities of owners and energy service companies that provide service to them.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition explains this increase in the variable term, which drags down the entire bill, by the arrival of winter and the incorporation of seasonal gas that was not contemplated in the last review, at the end of June for the quarter from July to September . Unless “something extraordinary” happens, the expectation is that the TUR will go down again in the March 2025 reviewfor the quarter from April to June, when again seasonal gas is not taken into account.
